DECORATIVE AND FAUX PAINTING
Our talented artisan partners use a variety of brushes, tools, and painting techniques to create ornate designs or mimic materials such as stone, parchment, and wood.
Decorative Painting
Stenciled works of art can add character to furniture, accent a window with a custom pattern, or be painted across an entire room. Trompe l’oeil is a technique that makes a painted object or design appear to stand out from the wall, giving the illusion of a three-dimensional element.
Certain glazes and painting techniques can make a surface look antiqued, while strié brushwork creates crosshatches or vertical lines on walls.
Faux Painting
This art form requires considerable skill and an understanding of how paints interact with each other as well as with light in order to capture the desired appearance.
Some of the more well-known finishes are faux bois—also known as wood graining as it mimics the look of wood—and faux marbre, which imitates marble. Virtually any natural material can be simulated, such as tortoise shell, parchment, and stones like malachite and lapis lazuli.
