As New York passes into the Winter season we find ourselves dreaming of spaces that evoke a warm desert, such as this inviting Southern California home brought to life by designer Alex P White with collaboration from SuperStrata.
Bringing warmth and character to this airy space was a must for this project, primarily achieved by utilizing the homeowner’s art and design collection and Alex P White’s exceptional vision and talent. Right as you enter the home you are surrounded by textured, pale earth tones, an effect created in part by the Marmorino plaster with limewash that SuperStrata collaborated with Alex on. Echoing the ambience of a desert, those same finishes were used throughout the space.
The entryway then opens up to reveal the spacious “gallery” room where you find yourself in the heart of it all. Art Deco-inspired light coves extend up from their travertine base, drawing your eye to the ceiling and around the room to take in its grandeur. Alex P White wanted to reconstruct the fireplace and engaged Jonas and SuperStrata to transform his concept, first into finished drawings and then into the final design piece. Now it exists as an element worthy of the room and the “Cherry Bomb” Lindsey Adelman light fixture that it enhances.
The elegant cast plaster light coves were designed by Jonas for proportion and to hide the illumination, resulting in a soft glow that emanates and extends up the entire length of the limewashed Marmorino wall.
